How to Manage File Permissions via cPanel Print

Incorrect file permissions can pose a major security risk — or even break your website. cPanel makes it easy to manage them correctly.

Steps to Check and Set Permissions:

  1. Log into cPanel and open the File Manager.
  2. Navigate to the file or folder you want to check.
  3. Right-click it and choose Change Permissions.
  4. Adjust the permissions using the checkbox or number format (e.g., 755 for folders, 644 for files).
  5. Click Change Permissions to save.

Recommended Defaults:

  • Folders: 755
  • Files: 644
  • Never use 777 unless temporarily troubleshooting.

For best results, keep your website files within these permission limits. If in doubt, contact Aviumshost support.
